Molli.
YEAR / 2021
BRIEF
We ask you to conceive of, and design, a smartphone or tablet app using appropriate design methods. We expect you to present a convincing proto-app at the end of the project using Adobe XD. Your app must sit within one of the following contexts: social, political, cultural, environmental, or technical. Your apps might be convenient, addictive, playful, sociopolitical, deeply meaningful, or delightfully superficial, but they must all be feasible and convincing.
RESPONSE
Wanting to tackle an issue that is both current in modern society and personal, I decided to focus this project on anorexia. The aim was to create an app that would help people with anorexia develop resilience against this life-threatening mental health condition. However, the role that the app should play specifically, is encouraging a mindfulness approach to the recovery process, rather than the medical, numbers-based therapy process that most recoverees go through. This more sustainable and mental-health-focused approach to recovery is supported through soft colours and gradients, smooth shapes and forms, and an overall minimal and friendly design. The app is transparent and provides the user with just what they need, nothing more and nothing less. The name Molli emerges from the Latin word mollitiam - meaning resilience.
